As we perform daily activities such as reading, watching television or working at the computer, our eyes are constantly focusing on objects at varying distances –up close, far away and everything in-between. The ability to quickly change focus throughout these ranges is called accommodation. Unfortunately, this ability diminishes as we grow older, causing us to become more dependent on bifocals or reading glasses.
The good news is, the AcrySof® ReSTOR® cataract lens was designed to provide quality near to distance vision by combining the strengths of apodized defractive and refractive technologies. Apodization is the gradual reduction or blending of the diffractive step heights. The application of apodization to intraocular lenses is a patented process by Alcon and can only be found in the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens implant.
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® intraocular lens offers our patients the opportunity to have great vision at any distance, eliminating or reducing the need for glasses after cataract surgery. In fact, recent FDA clinical studies indicate that over 95% of the study subjects were so satisfied with their new quality of vision that they would have the Alcon AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens implanted again.
Whichever IOL you choose, rest assured that cataract surgery is one of the safest and most effective procedures performed today. Your surgeon will make a tiny incision in your eye, remove the natural clouded lens, and replace it with a new lens. The actual surgery only takes minutes but the results are permanent and life changing. Most patients are back to their normal activities the very next day.
If you require cataract surgery in both eyes, surgery for the second eye will usually be scheduled a few weeks following the first eye.
We’re proud to offer AcrySof® lenses as part of our ongoing commitment to our patients who want the latest in ophthalmic technology, the best possible vision and the highest quality of life.
