What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® XC is a non-surgical wrinkle treatment, which uses a gel filler that instantly smoothes away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. JUVÉDERM® is also used as a lip filler to create natural, smooth, beautiful lips. With just one treatment, you’ll get even and natural-looking results that can last up to a year.*

What type of JUVÉDERM® do you offer?

Our office offers JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC. Both JUVÉDERM® fillers are infused with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to help create a comfortable treatment. The Ultra XC is indicated for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles, folds in the skin, and lips, while the Ultra Plus XC corrects deeper folds and wrinkles in the skin.*

What is the approach to the consultation?

In order to achieve a good outcome, it is important to rely on each patient’s input. Together, the patient and Dr. Bello will look at the areas that are of greatest concern. Next, he will examine the tissue and advise to whether or not the patient is a candidate for JUVÉDERM®. If so, it will be explained how much JUVÉDERM® is necessary to inject in order to reach the patient’s goals.

It is important to understand that the goal is to provide each patient with a naturally appearing enhancement. In order for these enhancements to appear natural, it is essential not to over-correct facial lines, wrinkles, or lips. As a result, initial outcomes may be under-corrected. If so, more JUVÉDERM® will be added in a gradual, stepwise fashion.

What is the approach to JUVÉDERM® injections?

The approach – start low, and go slow – is done in order to prevent an unwanted appearance. When facial lines, wrinkles, and lips are over-corrected, they can take on an unnatural, plastic appearance. Such an appearance will not meet the patient’s goals and will only advertise that work has been done.

A good analogy is to compare JUVÉDERM® to a haircut. When you go for a haircut and not enough hair is cut off, you can always go back for a touch up in order to achieve your desired appearance. However, if too much hair is cut off, you will have an undesired appearance that no one can do anything about until enough time has passed.

What takes place during the JUVÉDERM® treatment?

Dr. Bello will ease the JUVÉDERM® XC under your skin to replace lost volume (where wrinkles and folds occur) and/or enhance volume, shape, and texture (for the lips). Following the injection, the treated areas will gently be massaged. The procedure is quick and easy and the results are instant. The injection itself usually takes only about 15-30 minutes.*

How long does JUVÉDERM® last?

You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one injectable dermal filler treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing and improved volume. One treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC can smooth away your wrinkles and maintain lip improvement for up to 1 year. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of your wrinkles and folds, along with the enhancement of your lips. Dr. Bello will advise you to the amount of injectables needed to reach your desired outcome.*

When is the best time to have JUVÉDERM® (before an event)?

It is important to time your treatment appropriately. We suggest scheduling your treatment 4-6 weeks from the time of your treatment to the time you wish to look your best. We also strongly request that you inform us if you are taking Aspirin, Plavix, or Coumadin.

What are JUVÉDERM® side effects?

You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Be sure to report any redness and/or visible swelling that last for more than a few days (or any other symptoms that cause you concern) after receiving treatment to our office.*

What is the recovery time for JUVÉDERM®?

Because JUVÉDERM® XC is a simple, nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime.*
